The MRI in Practice Course is presented about 6 times throughout the year in the UK.
You can see all of our upcoming events on the Dates page.
The courses are delivered in partnership with Cobalt Health in Cheltenham, who organise and host all of our UK courses.
Cobalt are a registered charity, who provide State-of-the-Art diagnostic imaging, using the very latest MRI scanners, including a 3T high-field system, a 1T open, and a 1.5T mobile. This means we have access to some of the very latest MRI scanners, right on site at the course venue.
Cobalt have created an airy, comfortable new teaching room, at Linton House in Cheltenham with state-of-the-art presentation equipment. Coffee, soft-drinks and snacks are provided all-day long and on days 1-3 we all bus off to a fabulous gastro-pub for a hot lunch. On day 4, in response to delegate feedback, we offer a working-lunch. This allows us to move the final lecture to an earlier slot which means delegates can avoid the rush hour when making their journey home.
Another major advantage for us in partnering with a registered charity, such as Cobalt, is that we can now offer a course that is completely free from ties to private imaging or training companies. Unlike some of our would-be competitors, this allows us to offer a truly independent, completely generic MRI course, where the proceeds go to good causes - including funding medical research - rather than into the coffers of a private “Learning Company”.
If you wish to learn more about the Cobalt appeal, and their good work, please visit their web site here.
The UK course is a four-day course, but delegates can choose to attend days 1&2 and then return for days 3&4 at a later date. This helps to facilitate study leave and also allows radiographers to put the basic principles into practice before attending the second two days.
CPD endorsement from the Society and College of Radiographers is awarded on a whole-course basis.
CPD certification is therefore only awarded to delegates who have attended all four days - either in one block or in two blocks.
Days 03 and 04 are only available to delegates who have previously attended OUR course days 01 and 02.
Please check with our local organiser when booking for any pricing updates.
Essentials (2 days) £410 (with early booking discount £391.50)
Additional Concepts (2 days) £410 (with early booking discount £391.50)
Complete course (3 days) £650 (with early booking discount £620.50)
Complete course (4 days) £715 (with early booking discount £681.50)
The price of the course includes lunches, beverages and snacks but does not include accommodation. Delegates can find reasonably priced hotels and guest houses within easy distance of the venue.
A complimentary copy of the latest edition of the book MRI in Practice is usually provided.
*Please note that course prices vary by country, calendar-year and by venue. This reflects room-hire costs, AV-hire costs, levels of sponsorship, international transportation costs and catering costs. Please check pricing with the organiser at the time of booking.
1.1 The Course Organisers
The live MRI in Practice course is presented internationally in 22 countries. The presenters are Dr. Catherine Westbrook and Dr. John Talbot (hereafter identified as the presenters).
In most cases the presenters are contracted to deliver the course by a local course organiser who administers the course, takes payments from delegates and is usually registered for VAT etc. In some cases the organiser may be a registered company involved in health, education or both.
All requests for information relating to the administration of the courses including payments, refunds etc should be directed to the relevant course organiser. This can be done by using the on-line info request forms relating to each course. These may be on third-party websites.
Courses held in the USA and the Netherlands are organised directly by www.mrieducation.com and all enquiries should be directed to info@mrieducation.com.
1.2 Course Content
The course materials are updated constantly, to keep pace with changes within the field of MRI and to take advantage of the latest presentation technology and as such the course content may vary over time. The programme provided on this web site and in our promotional materials is for guidance only and we reserve the right to alter the timing and running order of the lectures to meet the requirements of the individual organiser and the venue.
1.3 Intellectual Property and Copyright Issues
The names MRI in Practice, and MRI in Practice / The Course are copyright 1992-present date Blackwell Science (Wiley Books) & Dr. Catherine Westbrook.
All text and graphics in this web site and in the course materials are copyright (2009-present date) Blackwell Science (Wiley Books) and Dr. John Talbot.
1.4 Audio and video recording of the live course content is strictly prohibited including (but not limited to) the use of mobile phones, iPods, iPads, tablet PCs, voice recorders, digital cameras and any type of computer. The presenters reserve the right to ask individual delegates to leave the lecture room in the event of them using any type of mobile electronic equipment including laptops. Lectures will not commence if there are any electronic devices in evidence at the beginning of each session. Mobile phones may be brought into the conference room, but must be switched off and stowed out of site during lectures. Charging of any devices in the lecture hall is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.
We operate regular checks with an electronic detection system to ensure that covert recording devices are not being used. This uses optical and radiofrequency scanning.
The presenters will pause presentations in the event that any portable electronic device appears to be in use during a presentation. We have had to introduce these rules following attempts to make illegal video copies of the course materials and they are strictly enforced.
1.5 Visa Applications for International Courses
www.mrieducation.com are unable to provide letters of invitation for visa applicants. This is because we are based in the UK and are therefore not in a position to sponsor or support visa applications in countries other than the UK.
2.1 Course Pricing
Course pricing may vary by country and by venue and is set by the individual organisers (as defined in section 1.1). This will reflect the venue cost, the level of sponsorship and transport costs.
MRI in Practice (The Book) may be offered inclusive of the course fee in certain venues. Please check with the course organiser at the time of application. The course fee NEVER includes accommodation or travel.
2.2 Payments
For your peace of mind, all payments processed directly from www.mrieducation.com are arranged through Stripe. Stripe provide a secure, fraud-protected, banking infrastructure for on-line payments. Stripe payments may not be available from your international location.
2.3 Refunds
For courses organised directly vis www.mrieducation.com, delegates may cancel their place on a course at any time up to 30 days before the course start-date. Under these circumstances a refund may be requested (minus a £30.00 GBP deposit to cover administration charges).
IMPORTANT Cancellations made by delegates after the 30-day deadline cannot be refunded, and no refunds are available to delegates who fail to attend the course for any reason. This is because 3rd party costs such as venue seating allocations, delegate day-rate and catering are non-refundable and must be paid for by the course organisers in advance. Places may, however, be transferred to another person with the prior agreement of the course organiser.
Courses organised by other parties may impose a different fee for cancellation and offer a different cancellation policy. If in doubt contact the course organiser BEFORE paying.
2.4 Course Cancellation by the Organiser (VERY IMPORTANT)
The course has been running continuously for over 25 years and cancellations are rare (only on three occasions to date). In the unlikely event of a course cancellation please note that the presenters and course organisers (as defined in paragraph 1) are not responsible for reimbursing anything other than the registration fee (where applicable) or the deposit (where applicable). Course organisers are not responsible for the reimbursement of any additional costs incurred by delegates in connection to their attendance at the course (for example travel costs or accommodation costs). We therefore strongly advise delegates who are travelling to the host city and staying in the venue hotel (or elsewhere) to take out travel insurance to cover any lost expenditure in the event of a course cancellation. This is especially important if your travel costs are non-refundable.

This email is not shared with anyone and is not stored for longer than is necessary to reply to your query or register you on one of our courses. The data is therefore only used for advertising, marketing and public relations (in connection with our own activity) and as such, is exempt from the data protection act.
You can find out more from the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) web site.
This is the traditional version of the course that has been running since 1992. In the UK (only) delegates may choose to attend the course in two blocks (2 days each), or undertake the whole course in one block (4 days).
The first two days cover the underpinning fundamentals of MRI and are essential for everyone - irrespective of previous experience.
The second two days cover additional important concepts.

Keep our course details handy to show your manager or colleagues - or compare to any other courses you may be considering.
This is a new adaptation of the course available from 2019. Delegates attend the entire course over three days. The content is identical to the four-day course, but each day runs from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The only other adaptation is that there is no requirement for a revision session. This is because there are no delegates returning to the course - which is the case for the four-day version (see above).

MRI in Practice is CPD endorsed by the Society and College of Radiographers.
The Certificate of Endorsement states that this course may support outcomes:
01. Practical skills
02. Knowledge base
03. Work safely
04. Legal/ethical frameworks or guidance
06. Manage knowledge/information
07. High-quality healthcare/education services
09. Inter-professional/agency working or learning
11. Workforce development or staff governance
18. Integration of education and employment
19. Evidence to support practice
If you are considering registering for an MRI course other than MRI in Practice, ask for evidence that they have CPD NOW endorsement and check how many of the above outcomes are supported. This is an important benchmark and without such it is likely that a course is not fit for purpose as a CPD resource.
